The Sisters Brothers (15)
It’s 1851, and Charlie and Eli Sisters (Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly) are both brothers and assassins, living in a savage and hostile world. The older of the two, introspective Eli (Reilly) dreams of a normal life. The younger of the two, hard-drinking Charlie (Phoenix) has taken charge with gusto as lead man on the duo’s assignments but each increasingly questions, and quibbles with, the other’s methods.
When the brothers are hired to find—and kill—a fugitive chemist, the trail leads them from the Pacific Northwest to Gold Rush California, and takes them on an adventure that tests the deadly family ties that bind.

And the critics say…
“This is a one-last-hurrah cowboy film with a warm sense of humour and a number of unexpected quirks, including two delightful performances from Riz Ahmed and Jake Gyllenhaal.” Anna Leszkiewicz, New Statesman
“Erudite, visceral and chuckle-worthy, this western is based on Patrick deWitt’s novel and starts out as the story of two gun-toting, chalk-and-cheese brothers, only to become more mysterious.” Charlotte O’Sullivan, Evening Standard
“It’s an extraordinary film” Nigel Andrews, Financial Times
“An eccentric, funny yarn filled with eccentric, funny characters, Audiard’s oater deftly twists Western tropes, sending its charming, ramshackle heroes scurrying from one bizarre incident to the next. .” Nick de Semlyen, Empire
