The Great Train Robbery

The Great Train Robbery (12)

Edward Pierce (Sean Connery) is a master thief of the Victorian Era who’s never found a heist he couldn’t pull off. For his next criminal operation, he plans something that has never been done before: to rob a moving train. Working with an expert safecracker (Donald Sutherland) and a seductive woman (Lesley-Anne Down), Pierce devises an incredibly complex plan to break into the train’s safe and steal the gold ontained within.

Full of derring-do and high jinks on the top of steam trains, The Great Train Robbery is the perfect way to celebrate this year’s Cogwarts Steampunk weekend at Llangollen Railway.

What the critics say…

“The climactic heist of the gold, with Mr. Connery climbing atop the moving railroad cars, ducking under bridges just before a possible decapitation, is marvelous action footage that manages to be very funny as it takes your breath away.” The New York Times

“Connery is one of the best light comedians in the movies, and has been ever since those long-ago days when he was James Bond.” Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“A splendidly detailed and rousing caper movie written and directed by popular author Michael Crichton from his own novel, that flaunts historical accuracy in favour of the alluring sizzle of gentleman rogues up to no good.” Empire

“Sean Connery gives a delightfully engaging performance as Pierce—he’s obviously a rogue, but in Connery’s capable hands the character is irresistible.” Sound and Vision
